Trickster does not track anything
Hi,
just installed Trickster, but it does not seem to track files at all.
I added my Dropbox folder to the watched folders, but the view is always empty.
The documents folders also is not tracked.
Trickster seems to only track what applications were opened, but no documents at all.

Hi Raph,
Did you add the document folders in "File Tracking Settings...", and then Watched Folders? Is there anything in the exclusion list?
Kind Regards,
Sandy

Yes, that's what the windows looks like (attachment).

Did you open any of these documents after adding the folder in Watched folders?
Are there any messages about Trickster in Console.app?
Kind Regards,
Sandy

Yes, opening documents from the Documents folder does not lead to them being shown in Trickster in the Documents tab.
Console.app shows three crash logs, but nothing else.

Did you try the "Drop a file to test" feature in "File Tracking Settings..."? Do you get the confirmation that the file will appear in the result list?
Sandy

Yes. Whatever files I drop from the docs folder in the field evaluates as being watched. When I open the file, it is still not visible in Trickster.

Hello,
I have some question that might help to clear this:
1. Do you use Finder to open files or Path Finder, for example?
2. Do you have Spotlight enabled and can it find the files in your Documents folder that Trickster doesn't show.
3. Are your files on your main drive or are they on some external drive?
4. If you select a file in your documents folder, copy and paste it to create a copy, does the copy appear in Trickster? (Without opening it, just after copying)
Jacob.

I have exactly the same problem here. Trickster was working fine but then stopped tracking and I have no idea why. It is exactly the pattern reported by ralph.
Regarding the questions of Jacob Gordon:
Any help is appreciated.

Hello, Cyrill.
Thanks for answering my questions.
Since you answers don't hit any known issues, let me ask you some more questions:
Does Trickster work if you restart it?
Can you see if there are any error messages regarding Trickster in the Console?
Could it be that you added a very general exclusion? Check all the File Tracker Settings dialog, including the watched folders (see that you have there the folders that you expect Trickster to track) and all the exclude lists.
Also, try to start with a fresh database, maybe it is something in the settings that you don't see:
Launch Trickster. It should start with an empty database with default settings, as on first launch. Does it track your files now?
Last, you can try the latest beta http://dl.apparentsoft.com/beta/Trickster_2.0.1.6a.zip
Let me know of your progress, Cyrill.
Jacob.

Hi Jacob,
Thanks for your reply!

Ciryll.
There is no attachment from the console.
You can try copying the rows from there instead of taking a screenshot and pasting them in your reply.
Yes, deleting the files that you specified is enough to restart Trickster like a clean install.
Jacob.

15.07.12 21:36:02,428 Trickster: Layout still needs update after calling -[WebHTMLView layout]. WebHTMLView or one of its superclasses may have overridden -layout without calling super. Or, something may have dirtied layout in the middle of updating it. Both are programming errors in Cocoa Autolayout. The former is pretty likely to arise if some pre-Cocoa Autolayout class had a method called layout, but it should be fixed.

Hi Jacob,
Removing all files at the same time and upgrading to the new version has helped. Now Trickster is operational again as expected.
Thanks for your help!
Best

Hi, Cyrill.
The type of most of the errors in your console seem to be the kind of errors which were fixed in the betas. But I'm not sure why it also required removing all the preferences.
But I'm glad it seems to be working. Let me know if any problems appear again.
Jacob.
